About Nishijin 【西陣】
Nishijin, literally meaning the "West Base", had its name back in the 14th century where Yamana Sozen based his troops in this area during the famous Onin War.
After the war, textile weavers returned to this area to continue their magnificent work, and Nishijin became the famous production site for Nishin silks that people know of today.
Although many weaving manufactures have closed its doors in recent years, Nishijin still has plenty of Machiyas that are kept in great conditions that can be used for offices or for living. With a bit of renovation, you can transfer this Machiya into an ideal office or home.
