Moroccan Touch in a KyoMachiya


One often think of wooden beams or mud walls when talking about Machiyas,
but this time we wanted to add an extra touch to give the new Machiya an exotic taste.
Despite the lack of things in common between Morocco and Japan,
they both put great value on the preservation of ancient architectures.

That is why with the help of Kukunoya Architect's office, we have completed the "Coral Colored Home"
hoping this renovated Machiya to express the color, texture, and the warmth of Morocco.

  1. Bizen Red Bricks

    Red bricks used for the furnace of Bizen pottery gives the coral color theme of the home, and they make you feel as if you are surrounded by the red Kasbah fortresses in Morocco.

  2. R-Shaped Wall

    R-Shaped walls found in the entrance and stairway soften the overall atmosphere of the house, and the curve reminds you of the Moroccan palaces and desert.

  3. Home Heating

    Winter in Kyoto can be harsh, and this home is well prepared with floor heating in the 1F and double glazed windows for insulation.

  4. Storages

    Wall shelves can be found at the entrance, kitchen, and even toilets. Storage in the 2F Tatami room is spacious enough to store your seasonal goods.

  5. Maintenance

    Only minimum maintenance is required with a garden paved with Bizen red bricks and less worries when you need to be away for a few months.
