Daitokuji South Kyo-machiya

map

map

A Kyo-machiya located on the south side of Daitokuji temple, a famous temple related to the tea master Sen no rikyu. It is an area where many temples are dotted that helped form a quaint Kyoto-like townscape.

Walk south along the Kuramaguchi street, you can find a cafe and bakery “Sarasa Nishijin” that was renovated from a former public bath that looks just like a public bath in the movie Spirited Away. In this area with a collection of unique and culturally scented shops, you can visit the famous soba restaurant “Kanei” that is selected every year by Michelin Guide, or go for a public bath at “Funaoka Onsen” that is registered as tangible cultural property of Japan.

Kenkun Shrine and Funaoka Park are place of relaxation loved by locals especially during the cherry blossom and autumn leave season. They are also popular as a walking course and running course for the locals. You may also see the famous Gozan no Okuribi during summer from the top of Mt. Funaoka.

plan

According to the past documents, there is a record of property registration back in 1925, and it is still well-preserved where the current owner lives with great care.

On the first floor, if you remove all the shojis (sliding doors) between each room, the light and air from the garden can fill the entire floor, where you can also enjoy the beautiful garden scenery as seasons change.
