Carefully selected and arranged tiles
Other than the wooden furnitures usually seen in a Kyo-machiya, tiles were carefully selected to create a more sophisticated space. We chose uneven tiles with good drainage around the kitchen and bathroom hoping to pursuit functionality as well as design.
Lighting that makes shadows appear beautifully
From dimmed light to the foreign retro lamps. The seemingly cute lighting creates a faint shadow in the Tatami room. It is also a design that expresses Japanese aesthetic.
An original Kyo-machiya renovation by Hachise
The first floor has been remodeled according to the modern lifestyle without changing the basic structure of a Kyo-machiya.
The second floor has a unique design that incorporates creative elements, such as a small rise floor and an arabesque pattern carpet.
Culturally rich area above Tofukuji temple
On the east side of Kamogawa river, in the neighborhood of JR / Keihan “Tofukuji Station”, there are the “Tofuku-ji”, where people visit the beauty of autumn leaves, and the “Senjyo-ji” temple, which is related to the imperial family, and other cultural assets of Kyoto.
Many of Kyoto's most famous sights such as the “Kyoto National Museum” that promotes display and preservation, “Sanjusangen-do”, known for its 1001 Senju Kannon statues, and “Chikuin-in”, famous for its garden and barrier paintings. It is an attractive area where you can enjoy sightseeing walks on foot.
Easy access to Kyoto and Osaka station.
Take the JR Nara Line train to Kyoto Station from Tofukuji Station in about 2 minutes. From Kyoto Station, you can use the subway, local buses, bullet trains, long distance buses, etc. to enjoy the city and other suburbs.
From Keihan Tofukuji Station, you can get to Gion Shijo Station in about 5 minutes, and Yodoyabashi Station (Osaka) in about 53 minutes with the limited express train.

The headquarter of the Shingon-shu Chizan-ha school. The highlight is “Partitions Painting” drawn by Tohaku Hasegawa and the “Scenic Garden” which is said to be a favorite of Senrikyu. The garden is made with the image of Lushan in China and the pond in the image of the Yangtze River.

The official name is “Rengeo-in”. Since there are 33 pillars in the main hall, it has been called “Sanjusangen-do”. In the main hall, there is the thousand hands “Kannon-za statue” (national treasure), and as you go deeper you will find the famous 1001 Senju Kannon standing statues.
Kyoto National Museum
