The alcove with the iron pole, denim-rimmed foldings of the Tatami mats, beautiful green garden planting, Japanese Washi wallpaper, kitchen tiles with a rare glaze texture, and flooring that combines lattice and acrylic that sheds light on the first floor, retro glasses, and so on. Carefully selected materials add flavor to each space inside the house.

01.  Daitokuji Temple

Daitokuji has a long relationship with the historical figures of tea ceremony, such as Ikkyu Monk, Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In Obai-in temple, you may be able to see rare special displays in spring and autumn. You can also join Zen mediation during different seasons of the year.

02.   Imamiya Shrine

Imamiya Shrine has over a thousand year of history. This Shinto shrine is famous for hosting the Yasurai Festival in April and the Imamiya Festival in May, prayers for good health, and its purportedly magical stone that is said to bring good fortune.

03.  Ichimonjiya Wasuke

This restaurant selling Aburi-mochi, a specialty of the Imamiya Shrine, is a restaurant with a history of more than 1000 years. A bite-sized porridge covered with kinako powder on a bamboo-stick, and after burning on a charcoal fire, the fragrant aroma of Aburi-mochi that is covered with white miso sauce is a tempting appetite.

An antique cafe that has been renovated from a former JA bank. It has a relaxed atmosphere like a private hideout.

This machiya cafe stands out from its vivid vermilion wall. The cafe has moved from Tokyo Ebisu to Kyoto. Rustic baked goods using domestic ingredients are popular.

06.  Supermarket Kamimoto

A popular supermarket that is oopular among the locals. It is located a little west from Omiya Dori, the main street.

07.  Circus coffee

A 100 year old machiya renovated into a roastery that serves "specialty coffee". The Coffee Bean Master searches for clean specialty coffees without clutter from all over the world, and brings them back to the roastery. Find your favorite coffee or get it as a souvenir for your friends and family.

08.  Cafe Mebae

A bookstore/cafe that collects only picture books. In the store, which has been converted from a machiya townhouse, there are approximately 600 titles of picture books, from masterpieces to new titles. All of these picture books were carefully selected by qualified specialists.
