A neighbor of the world heritage,
an unrenovated terraced Machiya
One of a 5 terraced Machiya within a
5 min. walk from Toji Temple (about 345m)
where the 5-story pagoda, the tallest wooden tower in Japan (54.8m), is located.
Where there seems some special connection
with the number "5", here we'd like to
introduce you to the house in the middle of
a quintuplet terraced house which is
uncommon in Kyoto.
Double-height ceiling "Hibukuro", "Toriniwa" aisle, porch, Tsuboniwa garden...many of the typical Kyomachiya design features have been left as they are. Although repair is needed before use due to the age deterioration, some materials such as the old pillar, fittings, and the rare Showa-template glasses can be reused to keep the property's original atmosphere.
The garden has been beautifully landscaped so new gardening work is not required. Enjoying the view of the garden with tea on the porch may become one of the daily routines in this house.
In addition, this property is an all-electric house. You may install an IH cooking heater, which is easy to clean and simple to maintain even when you are busy.
With a plenty number of rooms as 6, you can freely use them according to your needs such as guest rooms, hobby rooms, and workspaces.
A house that fulfills all your wishes
The good location is one of the most attractive features of this house.
Kintetsu Railway "Toji Station" is nearby, and the world heritage site "Toji Temple", a representative spot in Kyoto and an all-time favorite of many Japanese and foreigners, is also in the neighborhood.
Since it is easy to get to and from Kyoto Station, this is an ideal house that is convenient to live in, run a shop, or make as an office!
Since it has not been renovated, the interior and floor plan can be tailored to your needs. A Kyomachiya that has the most potential to make all your "dreams come true"!
- Living here!
- Run a shop!
- Open an office!
This time, we have prepared a renovation plan that considers the flow of household affairs. A plan for a resident that is easy to live while making the best use of the original floor plan.
The earthen floor space on the 1F is a free space where you can enjoy your hobbies, sell small items, gallery, atelier, etc. There is also a study on the 2nd floor for those who work from home or want to concentrate. By installing a window in the hall on the 2F, sunlight can enter the entrance from the atrium, making it a bright house.
One of the merits of unrenovated properties is that you can renovate the interior according to your needs and taste. How about making your dreams come true with a machiya that supports your wishes?

The southwestern part of Kyoto Station, where this Machiya is located, is not only close to Kyoto Station but also right next to the World Heritage Site "Toji Temple".
Founded by Kobo-Daishi Kukai, Toji Temple has a historical atmosphere and is said to retain the remains of Heiankyo. The large precincts where historic temple buildings are arranged from a long time ago are conveyed to the present.
On the 21st of every month, ”Kobo Market" is held in Toji Temple. Known as one of the best antique markets in Kyoto, it is fun to just look at the antique kimonos and antique shops. The landmark five-storied pagoda is the tallest wooden tower in Japan and can be viewed from the south window of the Shinkansen, greets Kyoto visitors with a deep history and culture.
The southern area of Kyoto Station is undergoing redevelopment with both conveniences and the quaint Kyoto-like scenery.
