下鴨のレトロモダン住宅(京都市左京区下鴨宮河町) 下鴨のレトロモダン住宅(京都市左京区下鴨宮河町)

A detached house in Shimogamo, one of the best residential areas in Kyoto

Located in a place where the scenery of historic houses and sophisticated modern mansions are mixed in harmony, this detached house is surrounded by nature such as the greenery of Shimogamo Shrine (Tadasu-no-Mori Forest), Kamo River, and Takano River. A calm living environment that is popular among residents of other prefectures and attracts people who are moving to Kyoto.

Faces Shimogamohigashi-dori St., this property is also easy to access with about a 6-minute walk distance from Keihan "Demachiyanagi Station".

A residential area with a well-organized cityscape and no tall buildings around.
The building itself has a nostalgic atmosphere that mixes Western tastes with traditional Japanese architectural characteristics. If you look closely to each space, you will find details that are delicately decorated and retain the fineness of Japanese ambiance.

You can also find features that reflect Western cultures, such as Western-style doors, retro glass fittings, tiled kitchen & bathroom, and a garden with beautiful stones. This is a charming building that we wish to pass down to the next generation.

A luxurious structured floor plan with a corridor at the center and Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, and kitchens on its left and right sides.
With gardens in both front and back, there is no feeling of oppression and you can feel the pleasant breeze through the windows on the 2nd floor, making the whole floor feel further spacious.

The front yard and the back yard were landscaped with offshoots pruned at the end of June 2022.

Around the nearest station, Demachiyanagi Station, you can find famous spots such as a traditional "Mamemochi" bean cake shop with long lines, the Showa retro "Demachiyanagi Shopping Arcade", Shimogamo Shrine, Kyoto Imperial Palace, and so on.
Despite being a little away from the city center, it has a peaceful and very comfortable living environment, where the healing Kamogawa Delta is close to your daily life. I'm sure it is an area where you can explore something new with excitement.

Kawabata St. / Takano River with cherry blossom trees (about 2 min. walk/160m)

Starting from Aoi Park, this is an over 8km long promenade with cherry blossom trees that continues along the river. When spring comes, cherry blossoms bloom like protruding from the bank, making it one of the most beautiful Sakura spots in Kyoto. You can enjoy the dreamlike scenery where the pink color fills your head. In the beautiful fresh green season, you can see local people enjoying soccer on the ground, cycling, strolling, practicing musical instruments and vocal exercises, tanning in the summer, reading in the shade of trees, etc. It is also a perfect location for pet walks and jogging. With the abundance of nature, you can enjoy the clear and fresh air in the nearby residential areas.

Aoi Park (Kamogawa Delta)
(about 5 min. walk/380m)

Locally called the Delta Park or the Delta, Aoi Park is located where the Kamo River branches off from the Takano River. A relaxed place surrounded by nature where you can listen to the murmuring of the river, watch wild birds such as kingfishers clustered, or be healed just by sitting. Located in front of Demachiyanagi Station, besides the famous bean cake shop "Demachi Futaba", there are also plenty of small and fashionable cafes scattered around. With its convenient location and the river view, it is a popular spot where people gather for the Gozan-no-Okuribi festival, lunar eclipse, solar eclipse, and meteor observations. Along with Maruyama Park at Yasaka Shrine, it is also known as one of the best cherry blossoms viewing spots.

Shimogamo Shrine
(about 10 min. walk/740m)

A world heritage site. Located in the Tadasu-no-Mori Forest, the vermilion Tori gate that suddenly appears in the green landscape has a majestic appearance. Once stepping in, the calm and quiet air will immediately make you forget the bustling city. Since the precincts can be passed through from every direction, it is recommended to make a passage while commuting to refresh yourself a little. In the summer, the "Mitarashi Matsuri", a festival where you can walk barefoot in the candlelit pond, is held and you can enjoy the fantastic scenery.

Tadasu-no-mori Forest (about 4 min./300m)

A primeval forest in the city where you can also see Genji fireflies in the summer. Even in the surrounding residential area, you can feel the negative ions in the air spreading from the trees in the forest and the fresh and cool air. Events are often held in the forest, such as the traditional event of Shimogamo Shrine like "Yabusame" - a mounted archery event where you can watch archers on a running horse shoot, "Aoi Matsuri" - one of the Three Great Festivals of Kyoto, flea markets where handmade items and food are lined up, and outdoor antique book fair which boasts the largest scale in Japan.
