ISHIDATAMI-ROJI

Stone Paved Alley

In Kyoto, there are many small alleys called “roji,” which branch from main thoroughfare as if they are capillaries. In fact, such stone-paved alleyways represent what is considered typical of Kyoto scenery. The roji alleyways connecting Kyo-machiya standing side by side not only creates a beautiful townscape, but the space also works for neighbors as a place to socialize with each other.
