About KyoDanran Nishijin

Nishijin is the name of the area extending between the Kita ward and Kamigyo ward of Kyoto City. There is no precise indicator from where to where, but it is a generic term for the area where Nishijin textile weaving thrived in Edo period.

In such area, KyoDanran Nishijin is a 90 years old KyoMachiya that used to be a textile weaving site, and now fully transformed into a modern and stylish sharehouse.

The theme of the share house is "food and hobby", where home garden allows you to harvest your own vegetables, and warehouse space allows you to enjoy hobbies such as instruments.

Community outside the house

There are also activities to do outside of the house, and the most popular one would be the "Senryogatsuji Festival".

The area around Omiya and Imadegawa street was called "Senryogatsuji" since the Edo era, where the merchant houses were the center of the Nishijin weaving industry.

Since 2002, Senryogatsuji Festival has been held in fall every year, where merchant houses open up to showcase their collections of textiles for public viewing, hoping to revitalize the the community.

As a resident of "KyoDanran Nishijin", we hope this becomes an opportunity for you to be fascinated with the Nishijn area through knowing the people and culture of the community.
