On the west side of Kyoto city, one station away from Kyoto station, is an area called "Shimabara" which used to be one of the famous red light district of Kyoto city in the Edo period. Now, it is a peaceful and quiet neighborhood with some remaining buildings that show the traces of history from the past, including KyoDanran Shimabara.

In this neighborhood, you can feel its liveness from the Kyoto central food market, and Kyoto Aquarium / Kyoto Railway Museum in the south. With a new JR station scheduled to be opened in 2019, Shimabara is being filled with new energy and becoming an area to be excited for.

According to the land registry records, this building existed way back in 1925. Its unique appearance already tells us that it is not an ordinary building. It was used as a restaurant before being transformed into a share house, but even further back it used to be a tea house with Geishas entertainment. In order to not weather the history of this building, Hachise renovated it into a sharehouse in 2014 while keeping the shape and parts of the building as it is.

A wide and spacious entrance welcomes you as you enter the share house, and as you slowly walk through the hallway, a garden with vivid red Camellia flowers awaits. You can feel the cool breeze as you quietly relax on the wood deck. The second floor is divided into individual rooms as it was like during the tea house days.
