Okazaki, located at the base of the Higashiyama mountains,
is graced with a natural environment of greenery interspersed
with relatively few tall buildings.
It boasts both scenic beauty, notably the Lake Biwa Canal,
and many cultural facilities, rendering it a cultural center of Kyoto
and a favorite choice for rest and recreation.

    This is a traditional lighting shop favored by Hachise. Just south of the shop is the old home of the well-known Japanese actor and actress couple Shintaro Katsu and Tamao Nakamura.

    This very famous udon noodle shop is so popular that you can see long lines of people waiting to eat there. The shop is located next to Heian Jingu shrine.

    ONODE offers unique bags and hats as well as interior design items.   • Hyotei
    Established 400 years ago, Hyotei is a Michelin three-starred traditional ryotei restaurant with a long history. The place began as a tea house for people on pilgrimage to Nanzenji temple. Step inside to experience another world of greenery and a beautiful flowing stream. The rice gruel offered only during the summer season (July–August) is known for its great taste.

  • Kyoto Nama Chocolate Organic Tea House
    This tea salon is an old Japanese-style house located near Heian Jingu shrine. The raw chocolate made by the owner, who has experience working as a chef in New York, is highly recommended. The space even has a friendly cat and a dog that visitors find lounging all day long!

    This café, connected to the library at Kyoto City Zoo, offers beverages as well as books from the adjacent library.
