Located at the foot of Mt. Hiei, Sakamoto is said to be the place of Shinto and Buddhist training where Enryakuji Temple and Hiyoshi-Taisha Shrine are located. In the old days of Nobunaga, many masonry craftsmen known as "Ano-shu" who had paid an important role in constructing castles settled here, leaving a number of precious stone walls called "Anoshuzumi" in the area.
To access by car from Kyoto, use the Nishiotsu Bypass and get off the "Shigasato Ramp". You may also access by train from "Kyoto Station", in about 14 minutes you will arrive at the nearest "Hieizan-Sakamoto Station" by taking the JR Special Rapid Service.
